Quick Read / Key Highlights

Two decades, global brands: Since 2004, Nidhi Raj has worked with Marriott, Hyatt, Kempinski, IHG, Renaissance, Sheraton and Shaza.

From housekeeping to leadership: She rose to Room Division Manager at Shaza Doha and played a key role in its pre-opening.

Recognised in the Gulf: Featured on the Women Power List of the Middle East in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and won Clean Middle East’s Best Housekeeper Award in 2024 and 2025.

Back to her roots: She founded Denirit Hospitality in Uttarakhand, including Denirit Laundry, with a focus on local jobs and women’s empowerment.

Breaking a mindset: Denirit trains women in laundry operations, a field where men have traditionally been more visible.

A Homecoming With a Purpose

For years, the story of Uttarakhand’s young talent has often been one of departure: leaving the hills for jobs in big cities. Hospitality veteran Nidhi Raj is trying to write a different story. After more than two decades with some of the world’s best-known hotel brands, she has returned to her home state to build Denirit Hospitality, a venture designed to create skilled careers for women close to home.

Built Step by Step

Nidhi began her career in 2004 in Housekeeping, a department she credits with teaching her discipline, attention to detail, teamwork and genuine care for guests. Over the years she worked with Marriott, Hyatt, Kempinski, IHG, Renaissance, Sheraton and Shaza, eventually becoming Room Division Manager at Shaza Doha, where she oversaw Front Office, Housekeeping, Spa and Security and contributed to the property’s pre-opening.

Her work earned recognition across the Gulf. She was featured on the Women Power List of the Middle East in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and received the Best Housekeeper Award from Clean Middle East in 2024 and 2025.

Denirit Laundry: Challenging a Gender Norm

Through Denirit Laundry, Nidhi is targeting a space where men have traditionally been more visible and women have had few chances to enter and grow. The initiative trains women in laundry operations, quality control and customer service, with wider plans spanning hospitality services, administration and customer care.

“I wanted to create something more than just a business,” she says. Her aim goes beyond jobs: she wants women to take responsibility, make decisions and move gradually into supervisory and managerial roles. “I always tell my team that your background should never determine how far you can go.”

Uttarakhand’s economy leans heavily on tourism and hospitality, yet structured employment in the hills remains limited, pushing many people to migrate. Nidhi’s model addresses both issues at once: it brings international service standards to a local business and gives women a reason to build careers without leaving their families.

“My dream is to create a workplace where women from the hills can see a future for themselves without believing that they must leave Uttarakhand to achieve their ambitions,” she explains. She also points to financial independence as a force that can strengthen not just individual women but their families and communities.

Nidhi says the most visible change among women who join Denirit is in confidence. Many arrive hesitant to speak up or take on extra responsibility. With training and encouragement, she has seen them begin asking questions, taking ownership and setting goals such as becoming supervisors.
